A common problem with boxed goods is that they get crushed. Edge board stops boxes crushing. This situation can happen when they are stacked together on pallets ready for despatch. Hence, only having edgeboard support on each corner will not prevent this. Also, when they are strapped or stretch wrapped, the box can still be crushed. Edgeboard stops boxes crushing by placing them on the sides. This edge guard gives the box further strength.
This situation is a widespread issue that is often caused by two key factors:
- Firstly, space in the box can cause it to crush. Hence, this happens since the finished product rarely fills the box completely.
- Secondly, the grade of the boxes is essential to get it right. Low-grade boxes have little strength and therefore get crushed easier.
What is the result?
The results of a box being crushed are that the pallet becomes unstable. Therefore, this causes a potential health and safety problem. Also, the pallets can be refused upon delivery which can be very costly indeed.
What solutions can we find for this?
The natural response is to increase the box strength (adding cost) and decrease the stretch wrap tension (reducing load stability further).
The smart response is to use short pieces of Veeboard edge protectors in the corners of the box to add stacking strength and eliminating the box crush issue. The angled board protectors provide the stacking strength needed to help stop the boxes collapsing in on each other.
There is often also a chance to further reduce the quality and therefore cost of the box further when using short lengths of corner pieces to add stacking strength.
Edge board Stops Boxes Crushing
This is particularly effective with light goods, such as baked goods that have little weight. Hence, they rarely fill the box, and the boxes are usually stacked very high.
