Having had some lengthy discussions with our associates we have all come to the conclusion that the most complicated pallet to wrap in the drinks sector is still water. Pallet wrapping still water is very hard.
Why is pallet wrapping still water so hard?
Well, in short, all carbonated drinks contain fizz. The fizz charges the bottle to make it firm. This fizz makes the bottle rigid, and the bottle does not cave or lose shape.
With water, you have movement in the bottle and no pressure. Therefore the internal dimensions of the container are changing shape as the water is moving around.
At Abco Kovex we have seen this more and more especially as the weight of the water bottle we drink from today is 50% lighter in material than it was six years ago!
There is a neat trick that some companies in the drinks sector have now implemented overcome the bottle collapsing. Just before the cap is closed, there is a small amount of air applied to pressurise the bottle. Hence this offers the same result as a carbonated bottle.
Therefore, we have solved the rigidity issue, but we still have not over overcome the dreaded sports cap. A staggering 35% of all 500mm water bottles come with sports caps.
These sports caps lead us to a new challenge when bottles are packed together in packs of 24 and then palletised they are now only resting on the small 15mm sports cap top. Hence, column stacking on a pallet becomes tricky.
At Abco Kovex we have overcome such stability issues by introducing anti-slip sheets and layer pads to offer support. These sheets improve rigidity and stability to the pallet. These factors coupled with our range of high yield performance low gauge stretch films create incredibly durable packing shipped worldwide.
