UK Stretch Film: Are you using your stretch film correctly?
Firstly, we should state that UK stretch film is also known by many customers as pallet wrap. It is designed to be stretched around palletised goods to ensure safe transport. This situation is however just the concept. We will talk about stretch film correct usage below.
Secondly, a stretch film not used correctly damages products due to movement or crushing. Also, they can occur by wrapping too tight or not tight enough. The aim is to get both the correct specification of the stretch film for the best machine performance. This situation can be used to achieve a wrapped load with a film stretched enough to contain the product. But that still retains a low elasticity. Thus, to keep the product in place but not that the stretch film damages the products wrapped such as crushing of corrugated boxes.
Why give film over specification?
Most commonly we find that the film used is over specification for the machine used. For example, a 250% Stretch film is used when the machine is only stretching 100%. Thus, this leaves enough elasticity in the film to move when in transit. Hence, causing low stability in the pallet wrapped. Also, when a cheaper film is bought, the machine speed needs to be decreased to allow the film to run without issues. These problems cause massive downtime, such as breakages.
